The Marin Literacy Program is no longer accepting new tutors. We are closing our program in January of 2019. We will recommend that you contact The Canal Alliance (https://www.canalalliance.org), Sonoma Literacy (https://sonomalibrary.org/locations/adult-literacy-program/volunteer-for-adult-literacy) or Literacy Works (http://www.literacyworks.org) in Petaluma.
If you are interested in becoming a Marin Literacy Program tutor your first step is to attend an orientation. Dates and times of our orientations are in our events calendar. If none of the scheduled dates work for you please call Executive Director Robin Carpenter at 415-601-4491 to arrange a time to meet for an orientation.
Once you have attended an orientation you are eligible to attend our next tutor training. On Training Day 1 you will receive very practical, hands-on information to get you started with your student immediately. You will be assigned a student on Day 1 and will have your first meeting with your student prior to Training Day 2. Two weeks later on Training Day 2 you will receive guidance and resources that are specific to your student.
Ongoing support for our tutors is available and we hold workshops and tutor roundtables through-out the year.
If you would like to volunteer in other ways some of the projects where we could use your help include:
Check-in calls to tutors – we call all active tutors twice a year to check in on their progress.
